about
Flag Day, Friday, June 14, 2013: Josh's little sister Shana turned 30, and his big sister Jennifer had her second child, a beautiful little girl named Laurel Susanna Rose. It was an incredible day to be alive, one that will be remembered for years to come. Written and recorded in one take that day, this is the first song that Josh had written in several months, a spontaneous act of inspiration.
It began as an ode to Wendy's family border collie, Callie, who recently passed. As the verses unfolded it became a meditation on anxiety and a tribute to Wendy's patience and her ability to calm Josh down at those times when his anger has gotten away from him. Fundamentally, this song is a humble marker in time, a token for those we have lost and a beacon for those to come.
lyrics
Is there a breath left in your chest?
One for our love, no more no less
What else to say, where else to run?
Lay in your shade, lay down my gun
I’ve calmed down, I’m calm now
I know you’ve been drowned out
I know you’ve been down, babe
I learn things the hard way
The darkness that shows me you really know me
Washed off of my wrist when I woke up this morning
The stubs and the receipts, effects for our causing
What started this slowly, then sped up and broke free
There’s something in my blood, and I can’t contain it
You’re closer to my heart, can you help me explain it?
What am I holding in, I should be releasing?
I scream into the wind when I could be breathing
Just a teaser from this band's gorgeous 3rd album, and their first with the recently reworked line-up. They've developed a huge sound and Natalia's vocals soar above it all, daring you to look down. The Cuss
Raw and hooky as heck, “Disaster Preparedness Coloring Book” is all classic, ragged indie sonics and rock-solid melodies. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 3, 2023
